So, the Civic was as advertised. A rarity in Criagslist land. Seller worked for a small used car lot, and was selling his personal car.

He is even able to store it inside the dealership until Friday when I can get it plated to drive it home.

Side note. During the test drive, I brought it into 3rd gear and up to 40 ish. Well, it was a 25, and I got pulled over and ticketed for 20 OVER. A 200 dollar ticket. Most expensive test drive ever.

But I got the car for 2800. Listed for 3K.

Still window shopping. Not going to pull the trigger before christmas bonus, and the winter tire are still quite good, so I’ll give them another season. February-March will get interesting.

That family deal that they had been dangling in front of me like a carrot on a stick for ages (never deal with family!!!!) fell through, and at least they finally admitted that a) stepdad’s too slow to get anything new while racking up the kms at an insane rate and b) my stepbrother doesn’t want a sedan.

The thing is that this whole “I’ll sell you my car soon.” thing has me pretty much set on E61s. I’ve spent the last year thinking that in just 1 or 2 or 3 months (at that time) I’ll have one. So right now I’m pretty set on “Fuck them! Just find a nice one at a dealership, dump the Honda there for next to no money and enjoy diesel torque and even more comfort on those long trips”

But is it really the car I want?

And even if, how do I do that? Living on the north end of a rather large island that connects to the main land in the south means that there is only a small local market. Trying to get a good price for the Honda would mean sitting on it for ages. Also, the local BMW dealership seems to put an island tax for the lazy on their used inventory. Big cities with a lot of interesting cars are Berlin, Hamburg, and Bremen (all 500-700 kms round trip). Or maybe when I am on vacation in Munich?

Just things I am trying to sort out right now.

Is there no one you can ask to test drive a car for you in a place with no island tax? I imagine E61s aren’t exactly rare in Germany, unlike that E30t 325ix. And what about Stralsund or even Rostock?

Anyway, what I tend to do is plan test drives when I’m on a longer trip. My advantage is that I don’t deal with dealerships (=more flexible times), but still. I recently test drove a car in Herford, close to Bielefeld. I drove from München to north-east the Netherlands (Groningen), so it was a very minor detour. It would’ve been a 500+ km round trip from Groningen.

Yeah, it’s quite minty. The 21 yr old kid who owned it wanted something German. I laughed and said “When you’re 40, you want something RELIABLE”. All kidding aside, I’ve done the German thing and it’s just not for me. But props to him for keeping it clean down to the Honda branded CD player and quite rare factory mud guards.

that cop is an asshole then...didn’t even drop to 5mph over or anything? I’d go to court for sure.

You’re a better man than I. I won’t go public with my ticket history, but it’s longer and more expensive than most would believe.

Thank you!! The EM1's are so scarce now. When I do see them, they are beaten to shit, or the owner wants 9K. I’m OK with 85% of the fun at 1/4 the price, but I would have loved an SI.

He didn’t even drop it to 1 mph under. It goes 0-5, 5-10, 10-19 and 20-25 OVER. The difference between that 1 MPH is 100 bucks. He said like 4 words to me. Licence, Reg Insurance. Came back 10 min later and said “Slow Down Vincent”. So like 6 words. 1st cop who never even wanted to hear anything or be reasonable in any way shape or form. I didn’t deny I was speeding. I get it, give me a ticket. But come on. It’s also 1.5 hrs from my house, so fighting it is gonna be a pain. BUT, it’s on my current AZ licence. So when I get my new NJ licence tomorrow....It MAY slip through the cracks.

I bought this two months ago. It has high miles, but was towed behind an RV for 12 years.

Kinja'd!!!

Don’t laugh too hard at the wheels. The old man that had it got upsold on some 13" rims lol. It’s just as clean on the inside though, with some fading of the top of the back seat being the only real problem. Came with a complete service history with all the main services done within the last 15k miles including clutch. The only problem is the old man got upsold at the exhaust shop and installed a high flow cat and stainless catback. It at least has a slip in resonator that makes it drone a little less. I jumped on it for $2k even though it had 230k miles. I did go to hot pink silicone hoses, I just couldn’t resist.
